How To Keep Pets Safe In Winter
As winter approaches, people must be more careful to keep their animals from straying outside. The colder weather can be harmful or fatal for pets if exposed to it long enough. This article will discuss how to keep pets safe in the winter.
How Long They Should Be Outside
If you keep pets indoors at all times during winter, make sure to give them plenty of exercise time when the weather is nice. Pets should not be outside for longer than fifteen minutes each time. Rather, make several shorter trips out instead of one long journey. Pets can also get frostbite and hypothermia if left in the cold for too long.
How To Keep Them Warm
If your pet must go outside during cold weather, ask a family member or neighbor to help you watch him while he’s out there. You can offer to return the favor when their pet goes out; this way, no one has to stand out in the cold for very long! If possible, do not let your dog walk on ice or snow without boots. If they walk on ice or snow, make sure to wipe their paws when they come inside and dry them thoroughly. Be especially careful to wipe between their toes! If you cannot provide your pet with warm shelter during the winter, you can always bring him indoors for the cold season. A little extra attention will go a long way toward making this time more manageable.
